Coca-Cola Afraid of CARU?

Coca-Cola Afraid of CARU?

CARU was created to make sure companies that advertise towards children under age 13 are advertising within government guidelines and regulations. Major issues regarding marketing to children include promoting unhealthy products, sharing misleading information, and encouraging negative behaviors. CARU recently launched an investigation into Just Play toy company for one of the products called FurReal Daisy the Yoga Goat. Consumers complained that their advertisements weren’t clear on what was included with the toy. After a thorough investigation, CARU determined that there wasn’t any clear indication of what was included with the toy and was misleading consumers. Many prominent marketers, such as The Coca-Cola Company decided to end advertising aimed at children because they often faced backlash for contributing to child obesity. In my opinion, self regulation can never be an effective substitute for government regulation because there would be a risk of favoritism within the workplace and lack of enforcement.
